A.J. Zwart       1903 – 1981

Arie J.Zwart is born on 30 August 1903 in Rijswijk. Zwart prefers to paint in nature and takes lessons at the Hague Academy for Visual Arts. He also receives lessons from Louis Soonius. His subjects are mostly moody landscapes along the lines of the Hague School. Zwart makes many landscapes and farm interiors. The traveling Zwart does not like to stay in one place for a long time and moves regularly. At the end of the thirties he went out with friends, from the Meppel School. From that time his palette becomes lighter and sunnier in tone.

His impressionistic interiors, landscapes and floral still lifes are more colorful. Zwart is going abroad in the early 50s. The Mediterranean atmosphere can be found in his palette. In 1981 he died in Laren.
